Union Catholic inspired by Seniszyn’s gusty play
BY GREGG LERNER FOR THE STAR-LEDGER
Junior sweeper Jen Seniszyn of Union Catholic turned in one of the gutsiest performances in recent Union County history on Tuesday. Nursing a badly bruised knee, Se-niszyn refused to leave the field against New Providence even though she was limping during breaks in the action.
Seniszyn, stripped of her excep-tional speed by the injury sustained on a slide tackle in a game Sept. 23, somehow managed to run down every ball sent into the corners and beat New Providence's fast for-wards. The team from Scotch Plains came back from a 1-0 deficit to beat New Providence, 2-I, in overtime.
"Coach (Jim Revel) asked me if I needed to come out and I said I felt fine," Seniszyn said. '"I was hurting but I did it probably be-cause our goalie got hurt and I wanted to stay in the game and help our team. During the second half and in overtime I just laid low, stayed deeper on defense."
The day after the game, Senis-zyn learned she had sustained a partial.tear of her patella tendon and would be out of the lineup until at least Oct. 14.
"I know there's a chance I made it worse by playing, but I wanted to help the team," Seniszyn said.
